Mary E. Horner March 8, 1921 - May 24, 2014 Mary E. Horner, 93, formerly of Tamaqua Pa. passed away Saturday May 24, 2014 at Bon Secours Place ALF, St. Petersburg Fl. She was born March 8, 1921 in Hazleton PA. to Michael and Anne Markovchik. She married Paul W. Horner on August 18, 1951 and they settled in Tamaqua Pa. where she raised a family and lived until they retired to St. Petersburg, Fla. in 2005 to be near family. They met at a Lakeside Ballroom dance and shared their love of dancing throughout their married life. They were married for 60 years. While in Tamaqua, she was a member of St. Jerome's Catholic Church and she took an active roll with her husband in the local Marriage Encounter group, often speaking to regional groups in the Eastern Pa. area. She was later employed by the Times News daily paper where she held various positions both in and out of the office. She enjoyed large family gatherings, particularly spending time with her seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Paul W. Horner. She is survived by her sons Paul M. (Margo) Horner, Chicago IL., Don G. (Monica)Horner, Baltimore Md., and Alan J.(Beth) Horner, St. Petersburg FL. She was the proud grandmother of seven: Lauren, Stacey, Julie, Jenny, Alana, Austin and Alissa. She is also survived by her sisters and brother, Caroline Clark, Cumberland, Md., Gloria Kohn, Allentown, Pa., and Carl Markovchik, Newark, Del. A memorial service is planned for Mary and Paul in Tamaqua later this summer and will be announced at a later date.
