Norman Hadley Heindel, Jr., 86, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on January 26, 2015. He went peacefully to his rest after residing in Tampa, Florida since 2014. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Sylvia Stoll Heindel; brother, William Brunson Heindel; and parents, Norman H. and Margaret B. Heindel. He is survived by his children, Dr. Norman Hadley Heindel III and wife Susan of Newnan, Georgia; Stacy Heindel Lewis and husband Gary of Tampa, Florida; and five grandchildren. Hadley was born in St. Petersburg on November 15, 1928. He attended North Ward Elementary School and Mirror Lake Junior High School, where he became an Eagle Scout. At St. Petersburg High School, Hadley sang in operettas, played football and golf. After graduating in 1946, he continued his education at the University of Florida. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and graduated in 1949 with a business degree. In December 1949, Hadley was drafted into the U.S. Army where he attended Leadership School, spent time in Korea as an artillery aerial observer and was discharged as a first lieutenant in October 1953. Upon returning, Hadley became employed with Merrill Lynch in New York, NY. He held sales and management positions in the firms New York institutional sales division from 1953 until 1969, when he was transferred back to St. Petersburg, Florida to manage the firm's local office. In 1988, Hadley retired from Merrill Lynch as Senior Resident Vice President concluding 39 years of continuous service. Hadley was involved in many civic and charitable organizations. He held various positions of trustee, director, president and vice chairman of most, including, All Children's Hospital, Golden Triangle Civic Association, Suncoasters of St. Petersburg, the Polywogs and St. Petersburg Health Facilities Authority. He was also a Distinguished Citizen of the Boy Scouts of America. Socially, Hadley had memberships with the Dragon Club, St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Racquet Club Northeast and Renaissance Vinoy Golf Club. Hadley stayed active in his recent years. He attended and volunteered his time at St. Peters Cathedral, enjoyed playing tennis, golf and was a devoted Florida Gator. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 Dr. MLK Street North, St. Petersburg FL 33704. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at The Cathedral Church of St. Peter, 140 4th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. Interment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Hadley's name to The Cathedral Church of St. Peter.
