Neithamer, Richard Walter, 72, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday February 16, 2002 at home. Born in Wesleyville, Pennsylvania, he came here in 1964 from Terra Haute, Indiana. He received a BS in Chemistry from Allegheny College in 1951 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Indiana University in 1957. He taught Chemistry at Lebonon Valley College, East Texas State University, Rose-Hulman Institute and Eckerd Florida Presbyterian College for a total of 36 years, retiring from Eckerd College in 1991. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, the Free & Accepted Masons, Phi Lamda Upsilon, The Society of Sigma Xi, The American Chemical Society, American Association of University Professors, American Association for the Advancement of Science and was a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists. He served on the Local, State and National Committees of the American Chemical Society and was listed in American Men of Science, Who?s Who in American Education, Who?s Who in the South & Southwest, Leaders in American Science and the Dictionary of International Biography. He was a member and Chairman, on the Board of Deacons, Vice President, and on the Board of Trustees of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Petersburg Boy Choir, was currently a member and Vice President and on the Board of Trustees of the Suncoast Manor Foundation, was a member of Technical Advisory Committees for the St. Petersburg Department of Public Works, the Clean Air Coalition, the St. Petersburg Science Center and the Energy Action! Committee, Region VIII of the State of Florida. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jeanette Burton Neithamer, a son, Dr. David R. Neithamer of Midland, Michigan and 3 grandchildren.
