Alexander, Barbara M., 67, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Monday May 20, 2002 at home. She was the wife of Capt. Sherman G. Alexander USN Ret., a native of Sherrill, NY. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she moved with her family to Los Angeles at an early age. The Alexanders were married in Groton, Connecticut in 1958 and retired to St. Petersburg in 1996. She was a longtime volunteer with several Navy organizations including the Navy Relief Society in Great Lakes, Illinois and Navy Recreational Services in Naples, Italy. In 2000, she was appointed by the Governor of Florida to the Long Term Care Ombudsman Council of Pinellas County, Florida. Survivors include her husband of 44 years; two sons: Scott S. Alexander, St. Petersburg; and John M. Alexander of Leucadia, CA; and a brother, John Manfroy, Big Pine Key, FL. Those who wish may make contributions in her name to the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Dr., Largo, FL 33770.
