Edward V. Pollard
May 16th, 1910 - May 24th, 2002
Pollard, Edward V., M.D., 92, of Clearwater and formerly of St. Petersburg, died Friday May 24, 2002 at Sylvan Health Center. Born in Walnut Grove, TN, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1946 from Rome, GA. He was a 1928 Graduate of Parsons High School in Parsons, TN. After high school, he went on to earn his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In 1933, he received his M.D. from the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. He served an internship at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He had graduate training at the University of Chicago and at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, TN. Upon completion of his graduate training he joined the U.S. Army and was assigned as a medical officer in the 36th field artillery, serving in the European Theater and in North Africa during WWII. When he returned from North Africa in 1943 he was placed in charge of the Officers and Woman?s surgical section of Batty General Hospital in Rome, Georgia where he served until he received his honorable discharge as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in 1946. Following his discharge from the Army he came to St. Petersburg and in 1948 he founded the St. Petersburg Woman?s Clinic at 700-6th St. S. He practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology until 1966 when he limited his practice to gynecology and gynecological surgery. He retired from the St. Petersburg Woman?s Clinic in 1986. He was active on the staff of St. Anthony?s Hospital, Bayfront Medical Center formerly Mound Park Hospital, Edward White Hospital, Palms of Pasadena Hospital and Humana Hospitals. He belonged to Theta Kappa Psi Medical Fraternity. He was a member of Sunshine Masonic Lodge #288 F & AM in Gulfport, Tampa Consistory, and Egypt Temple Shrine in Tampa. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the International College of Surgeons. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Seminole. Survivors include one son, James E., Durham, New Hampshire; one sister, Louise Kappen, Springdale, Arkansas; one grandson, Jason C. Pollard, Seattle, WA; and one granddaughter, Lindsey E. Pollard, of Durham, NH; and long-time friend and caretaker, Mildred ?Cracker? Holton, Clearwater.
