Clarence Richard Dick'' ''Boom'' McBroom

McBroom, Clarence Richard ?Dick? ?Boom?, 64 of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, died Sunday, August 4, 2002 unexpectedly in his sleep at home. Dick was born in Defiance, Ohio on June 26, 1938. He attended Purdue University after graduating from Defiance High School and entered the Army in 1961 serving as an Army Investment Advisor and an Industrial Engineer at Campbell Soup in Napoleon until he founded WNDH Radio in Napoleon in 1972. Dick acquired another AM-FM station in Galion, Ohio in 1976, WONW in Defiance in 1987, and WZOM in 1992, forming the Maumee Valley Broadcasting Corporation. Dick?s strong belief in community involvement drove him to serve on a number of committees. He was on the Downtown Revitalization Committee of Napoleon, Defiance College Pilgrims Society, Bowling Green Presidents Club, Kettering Country Club of Defiance, 4-H Endowment Fund and past Trustee of the Napoleon Elks Lodge. Dick served on the Zoning and Planning Board in Napoleon for 20 years. He was on the CBS Affiliate Board, past President of the Napoleon Chamber of Commerce, past Director of the Ohio Association of Broadcasters, and Director of the National Association of Broadcasters. Dick was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He and Terry retired in 2000 and moved to Indian Rocks Beach when Maumee Valley Broadcasting Corporation was sold. Since moving to Florida, Dick became a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and was serving on the Board of Zoning and Planning for the City of Indian Rocks Beach. Dick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Terry Lee Puhl McBroom; a daughter, Mrs. Andrew Cheri Matyk, Indian Rocks Beach, FL, two sons, Steven Kristy Wayne McBroom, Columbus, OH, and Mark Mary Merillat McBroom, Indian Rocks Beach, FL. Grandchildren, Taylor McBroom; Andrew and Amanda Matyk, Connor, Madison and Grant McBroom. Father and Stepmother, Robert J. Elizabeth Bailey McBroom. Brothers and Sisters, Mrs. Joseph Phyllis Kappes, Judith Zinober, Frederick J. McBroom, Dennis R. McBroom, Janet Carter, Mrs. Kevin Patricia Newcomb, Michael Toni Owens McBroom, and Mrs. Jeffrey Margaret Boyers. Father and Mother in Law Frank and Marseille Spire Beals, Sister and Brother in Law, Rocky Debbie Beals Dunlap. Aunts, Helen McBroom, Martha Mayer, Ladyne Kurtz, Marie McBroom, and many nieces and cousins. Dick was preceded in death by his mother Lucile Keller McBroom. The showing will be held on Friday, August 9, from 1:00 ? 9:00 at the Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon, Ohio with and Elks Memorial Service starting at 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon, Ohio. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens. Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, National Cancer Society, St. Augustine School, or the Donor?s Choice.
