Genevieve Gibson Hansen
January 24th, 1917 - November 7th, 2002
Genevieve Gibson Hansen, recently relocated to St. Petersburg from Stuart, FL, died November 7 at age 85. She was born in Chicago, IL 1917, the daughter of Merle Gibson and Irene Simmons. She was raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Mrs. Hansen?s family was one of the original pioneer families of Western Pennsylvania. She graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and earned a Bachelor?s Degree from Pennsylvania College for Women Chatham College with a major in English and French and a minor in Spanish. She was instrumental in the development of special foreign language programs for elementary school children at the Falk School of the University of Pittsburgh. Upon moving to the Philadelphia area, she was Director of Volunteers at Lower Bucks Hospital and Director of Mobile Blood Services for the Buck?s County chapter of the American Red Cross. Prior to moving to Florida she and her husband lived in his family home in Manasquan NJ. She was active all her life in the Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Hogan Hansen who died in August of this year. She is survived by their daughter Marjorie Hansen and son-in-law, Thomas Hayes of St Petersburg. Mrs. Hansen?s ashes will be scattered with those of her husband in the Atlantic Ocean.
