Alsen, Robert Walker, 77, of St. Petersburg, died Thrusday, January 20, 2003 at Grace Health Care of St. Petersburg. He was born in Cambridge, MA. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a First Lieutenant P-51 Fighter Pilot. He graduated from Boston University in 1948, School of Business Administration with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. He was a Production Planner for Corning Inc. 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was a choir member, representative to Corning Vicinity Council of Churches, Painted Post Pantry volunteer and Representative to Chemung-Steuben Baptist Association. He was the Area representative to the General Board of the American Baptist Churches/ USA with assignment to Board of National Ministries. He was a member of the Board of Directors American Baptist Extension Corp., the investment wing of the church. He also was a member of ABC/USA world Relief Committee and elected to the Board of Managers of American Baptist Churches Historical Society. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 60 years, serving in all phases of Scouting including Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, district and council work and various duties at Camp Gorton and also served on the Five Rivers Council Advisory Board. After moving here in 1995 from Painted Post, New York he participated in Community events and was an active member of The American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes. He was a member of the Lakeview Optimist Club and the Breakfast Optimist Club, The North downtown Neighborhood Association where he served as a director. He served on the Board of Directors for Flori-de-Leon Apartments Inc and served a term as president. He enjoyed gardening and cultivated a garden at Happy Works Children?s Center and was the greenhouse manager at the Sunshine Senior Center. He was a member of the Association of Military Pilots and chaplain of the Order of Daedalians, Suncoast Flight 25 at MacDill Field.Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Beverly Alsen of St. Petersburg, 2 daughters, Claudia Decker of St. Petersburg and Esther Sullivan of Canandaigua, NY, 2 sons, John Alsen of Clifton Park, NY and Richard W. Alsen of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, one sister, Ruth Dolham of Lexington, MA., 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4801-86th Avenue North, Pinellas Park,, FL 33782 or American Baptist Church of the Beatitudes 2812 8th Street N., St. Petersburg, FL 33704.
