James Albert Jimmy'' Mann
August 19th, 1926 - December 9th, 2002
Mann, James Albert ?Jimmy,? 76, of Palm Harbor, died Monday Dec. 9, 2002. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, he moved here in 1957 from Southern Pines, NC. He was a Sports Writer and columnist for The Greensboro Daily News, The Atlanta Constitution, The Evening Independent, and The St. Petersburg Times. He was also a frequent guest writer for The St. Petersburg Times. He was Editor of Golf World Magazine and authored a book with Tommy Bolt entitled The Hole Truth. He was a member of Florida State Development Commission promoting sports throughout Florida and was Director of the LPGA Tournament in St. Petersburg. He was founder of both the County Golf Association and the Mitchell Homes Softball League. He served on the Golf Course Advisory Committee for the City of St. Petersburg and was a member of Lakewood Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Edith; five daughters: Martha Buttner, St. Petersburg; Mary Smith, Ridgefield, CT; Lori Kinstle and Yvonne Eddinger, both of Largo; and MaryJean Corsini, Palm Harbor; a son, Gerald Hardy, Clearwater; a sister, Jean Wold, Greensboro, NC; and twelve grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be 1:00PM Friday Dec. 13, 2002 at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center-Ninth Street Chapel, 2201-9th St. N. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in his name to Admiral Farragut Academy?s Athletic Department, 501 Park Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33710 or to Clearwater Central Catholic High School?s Athletic Department, 2750 Haines Bayshore Road, Clearwater, FL 33760.
