Virginia Hunter Punk'' Starnes
April 15th, 1918 - December 15th, 2002
Starnes, Virginia Hunter ''Punk'', 84, of St. Petersburg, died December 15, 2002 at home. Born in Greensboro, NC, she came here in 1967 from Jacksonville, FL. She graduated in 1935 from Women's College now UNC at Greensboro with a BSSA degree in secretarial administration and enjoyed a long and successful career as an executive secretary. She is survived by her three nephews, James Stenhouse, Jr., Michael Stenhouse and Richard Stenhouse, and niece, Sally Kneidel, all of Charlotte, NC., as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. Punk had a pixie-like twinkle to her eyes and loved to tell jokes. Her visits to family were always eagerly anticipated. She is remembered as someone who could laugh at herself, who appreciated straightforward and honest people, and wrote charming and witty letters. She loved her old typewriter. At the prodding of younger family members, she wrote quite a few delightful stories of her childhood adventures, which will be treasured by her younger relatives. Punk enjoyed the company of her attentive neighbors, and took pleasure in doing yard work and planning home improvements. She counted as her greatest blessing the 57 years she felt privileged to share with her beloved husband Lee, whom she lost four years ago.
