James Morris Jim'' Thompson
August 21st, 1921 - April 16th, 2003
Thompson, James Morris, 81, of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday April 16, 2003 at home under the care of Hospice. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty; two sons, A. Stephen Thompson and wife, Linda of Nokomis, FL and Michael E. Thompson and wife, Virginia of St. Petersburg; two daughters, Lynn Thompson of Trenton, NJ and Megan Thompson Hand and son-in-law Erik of Seattle, WA; a sister, Marion McQueen of St. Petersburg; two grandchildren, Stephanie Thompson and Cooper Thompson Hand and several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of the Peddie School in his hometown of Hightstown, NJ. He also attended Duke University before enlisting in the Air Force during WWII.He moved to Florida in 1990 from his native, Hightstown, NJ. He was owner/operator of Potter & Hillman Ford in Hightstown until retirement in 1980. He loved working with wood and antiques and was proprietor of the Country & Primitive booth at the Gas Plant Arcade in St. Petersburg. He also was an avid golfer and member of the St. Petersburg County Club. Some of his golfing achievements include: Lakewood Country Club Champion, Peddie Golf Course Club Champion, City Amateur Senior Champion St. Pete, and consecutively eagling the 8th and 9th holes at Lakewood Country Club. A ?Celebration of a Life Well Lived? will take place April 23rd from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at St. Petersburg Country Club, 2000 Country Club Way S., St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL 33770.
