Sullivan, Daniel J. ?Dan? III, 83, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday April 26, 2003 at his residence. Born in Sacramento, CA, he came here in 1925 from Sacramento. He was a professional tennis player and instructor. Mr. Sullivan was the head pro at the St. Petersburg Tennis Club for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the ski troops in the 87th Mountain Infantry and fought in Italy, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association and the American Legion. He especially enjoyed his visits to Harvey?s Fourth Street Grill. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Jean Watkins and Shirley O?Sullivan, St. Petersburg, one son, Daniel James Sullivan IV, St. Petersburg, a sister, Jeanne S. Tucker, St. Petersburg, a granddaughter, Dr. Antoinina Watkins, Atlanta, GA; and two grandsons, Daniel James Sullivan and Dylan James Sullivan, both of St. Petersburg. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Petersburg Tennis Center : 650 - 18 Ave S. St. Petersburg, Fl. 33705 .
