Brown, Harold H. ?Coach,? 83, of St. Petersburg, died Monday May 26, 2003 at Edward White Hospital, St. Petersburg. Born in Paterson, NJ, he came here in 1949 from Huntington, Ind. He served with the U. S. Army during WWII in Italy, France, and Africa. He received his Bachelor?s and Master?s degrees in Education from Indiana University. He was the former Principal of Lakeview, Harris, Mount Vernon and Rio Vista Elementary Schools. He was among the first male elementary education teachers in the county in the early 1950?s. He was active for many years refereeing basketball, football, and coaching Little League. He was a member of the Florida High School Officials Association. After retiring from the Pinellas County School System in 1979, he worked for 23 years as the ?puppy picker? at Derby Lane. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Gloria Jane; two daughters: Mary Holloway, St. Petersburg; and Suzie Brown, Lafayette, CO; one son, Robert, St. Petersburg; and three grandchildren: Jeremy Tracy, Alex Brown, and Sara Holloway, all of St. Petersburg. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the American Cancer Society, 4801-86th Avenue North, Pinellas Park, FL 33782.
