Bussey, Betty Rutland, 77, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday July 12, 2003 at home under Hospice care. A lifelong resident of St. Petersburg, she was a Director with the former Rutland Banks which her father Hubert Rutland Sr. started. She was a founding director of the St. Petersburg Bank & Trust company and the Central Plaza Bank & Trust Company. She was a founding member of the Lake Tahoe Hospital Foundation. She was the first woman stockholder in Lakewood Country Club. She was a board member of the Manatee Valley Drainage District. Betty was a graduate of St. Petersburg High School, class of 1944 where she was voted most friendly and was captain of the swim team. She went two years to Ward Belmont, then Graduated from the University of Alabama, and was a Kappa-Kappa-Gama. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church . She was a member of the St. Petersburg Junior League, The St. Petersburg Museum of History, the Boley Angels, the Salty Sisters of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, and the St. Petersburg Debutante?s Society where she served as a past president. She was an avid swimmer, Devil Ray?s and Tampa Bay Lighting fan. Survivors include a daughter Helen Sterin St. Petersburg, 4 sons Hubert R. Bussey Breakenridge Texas , Robert N. Bussey Jr. , Stephen R. Bussey and Rutland W. Bussey all of St. Petersburg; 7 grandchildren, Stephen R. Bussey Jr., Edward D. Bussey, Betty G. Sterin, Christian C. Sterin, Nicholas J. Sterin, Kathryn C. Bussey, and Shands R. Bussey. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL 33770.
