Thomas B. Castiglia
April 26th, 1932 - July 11th, 2003
Castiglia, Thomas B., Jr., 71, passed away Friday, July 11 in St. Petersburg, FL, of complications from pneumonia after a long and courageous battle with cancer. At his passing he was surrounded by his loving children. Born in Tampa, FL, Tom attended Riverside Military Academy and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1950. He attended Duke University and then Florida State University graduating with a BS Degree in 1957. Tom had 33 years total Active and Reserve military service, including Active Duty with the USMC during the Korean Conflict. He retired from military service in 1984 as a Lt. Colonel, armor Branch, US Army. In his professional career, Tom served on the Chancellor?s Staff of the Florida University System. He was the first Director of Human Resources at the University of Central Florida, and later served in the same capacity at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. He also served as Director of Personnel at the University of Arizona, Tucson. He was Vice President of Human Resources and Administration for the Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Inc., Jacksonville, FL. He retired in 2002 as Director of Risk Management at Florida Community College at Jacksonville FCCJ after 12 years of service. Tom served 30 years as a volunteer to the American Red Cross, specializing in Disaster Services. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jacksonville Chapter, and Chaired the Disaster Services Committee for 5 years. He was a past officer of Downtown Kiwanis of Jacksonville, National Vice President of American Society for Professional Administration now Society for Human Resources Management. Troop Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop #159, and a member of various civic organizations. Tom was a member of Duval Masonic Lodge #159, Free and accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Masons, Royal Arch Masons Chapter #12 Damascus Commandery, and Morocco Shrine Temple, all of Jacksonville, FL. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose lodge #1263, Ormond Beach, FL. Survivors include two sons, Thomas B. Castiglia III of Orlando, Stephen Castigilia of Jacksonville; one daughter, Patricia C. Velardi of Ormond Beach; two grandchildren, Ashley L. Ankrom and Maggie M. Velardi, both of Ormond Beach; one sister, Virginia Chaput of Tampa. An Episcopal Service followed by a Masonic Last Rites Memoiral Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, Jacksonville, on Tuesday, July 22 commencing at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Duval Masonic Lodge #159, or to one?s favorite charity.
