John Edward Martin
June 17th, 1937 - October 31st, 2003
Martin, John Edward, 66, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Oct. 31, 2003 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. Raised in Fort Wayne, IN, he attended Purdue University and graduated from Indiana University in 1959 with a degree in Finance. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1973 with his wife and three children from Basking Ridge, NJ. Prompted by the participation of his children, he became involved in the growth of the Riviera Jr. Raiders Youth Football Assoc., which later developed into the NE Bandits Youth Org. for both football and soccer leagues. He was actively involved in the development of Jack Puryear Park located in NE St. Petersburg. As a board member of youth sports organizations, he spent countless hours ensuring that all children had an opportunity to play, as well as teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship and sportsmanship. Most recently a Financial Consultant for Weisman & Assoc., he worked as a Controller and an Accounting Manager for several companies in the Bay Area. He is survived by Rosalind, his wife of 44 years; two sons, Kevin of Cumming, GA and Keith of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Darcie M. Billera, Seminole, FL; sister, Jane Heineman of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren and six nephews. Services will be held at 4PM on Saturday, Nov. 8th at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home-Ninth Street Chapel-2201 9th St. N., St. Petersburg. The family will receive friends beginning at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation.
