Carroll, Charles F., 88, of St. Petersburg died Friday November 21, 2003 at Largo Medical Center. Born in Boonton, NJ, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1973 from Utica, NY. He retired in 1994 as the Project Director for the Pinellas County AARP Employment Program. He was appointed by Governor Bob Graham as commissioner to the Martin Luther King Commission and was re-appointed as commissioner by Governor Lawton Chiles. He was appointed by St. Petersburg Mayor Charles Schuh to the State Regional Manpower Planning Advisory Board and by Governor Reubin Askew to the District 8 Regional Manpower Planning Board. He served as chairman of the Martin Luther King Foundation. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus ? New York Council and a member of the Council on Aging. He was a member of St. Raphael?s Catholic Church. Predeceased by his daughter Marilyn Hoadley, survivors include his wife: Myrtle Smith-Carroll; two 2 daughters: Barbara Farrell ? Zephyrhills, FL and Lois Drumm ? Whitesboro, NY; a son: William ?Billy? Carroll ? St. Petersburg, FL; two 2 sisters: Marge Howell ? Washington Township, NJ and Ruth Howell ? Randolph, NJ; two 2 step-daughters: Virginia Werly ? Riverside, CA and Rosemary Smith ? Charleston, SC; four 4 step-sons: Raymond Smith ? Riverside, CA, Walt Smith ? Maitland, FL, Bob Smith ? Winfield, British Columbia, Canada, and Jack Smith ? Spain; fifteen 15 grandchildren and ten 10 great grandchildren.
