March 8th, 1946 - January 5th, 2004
Hellwig, Charles L. ?Charlie?, 57, of Madeira Beach, FL died Monday, January 5th, 2004 in the Emergency Room of St. Petersburg General Hospital after collapsing while riding his bicycle on the Pinellas Trail. Born in Cape Girardeau, MO, he to Florida in 1998 from Omaha, NE. He retired as a Tech Sergeant from the Air Force, where he served in Spain and had two tours of duty in Viet Nam and was stationed in Wichita while in the Air Force. He was a Graphics Illustrator serving as the Director of the Sign Shop at VAMC in Bay Pines. He loved sailing and was a member of the Clearwater Community Sailing Club CCSC; he loved cycling and was a member of FLATTS Florida Tandem & Touring Society. He is survived by his wife, Veronika ?Roni?; two daughters, Melanie Hellwig of Lincoln, NE and Rebecca Hellwig of Omaha, NE; his mother, Jane Bannister of Largo, FL and formerly of Wichita, and a sister, Sally Stavolta of Burlington, MA. A committal service will be held in Florida, Monday, January 12th at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to, USO World Headquarters, Department WS, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, DC 20090-6860.
