Shaffer, Donald Franklin, 86, of St. Petersburg, died Friday April 9, 2004 at St. Anthony?s Hospital. Born in Cambrook, PA, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1978 from Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in engineering. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Captain, having served during both WWII and the Korean War. He was an engineer for B.F. Goodrich retiring in 1978 after supervising the construction of many manufacturing facilities throughout the world. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. He volunteered at Admiral Farragut School, bowled in two leagues, and was a member of the V.F.W. Survivors include his wife of 33 years: Violet V.; two 2 daughters: Suzanne McElroy ? Dallas, TX and Ellen Sours ? Clinton, OH; six 6 step-children: James O. Christie ? Alabama, Mary Elizabeth Boles ? Hartville, OH, Edward Lee Christie ? Kennesaw, GA, Ruby Faye Pressler ? Hartville, OH, Linda Kaye Smith ? St. Petersburg, FL, and Ronald Keith Christie ? Akron, OH; seventeen 17 grandchildren; and seventeen 17 great grandchildren. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center ? Ninth St. Chapel.
