June 28th, 1920 - June 10th, 2004
Cox, Bird V., 83, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday, June 10, 2004. Born in Bon Air, Virginia in 1920, she moved here in 1943, started school in Tampa, Florida and completed her formal education in Long Island, NY, returning here permanently in the 1980?s from Bettendorf, Iowa. Active in veteran?s affairs, she traveled the country with her husband, the late William E. Cox working with high school students in the National Traffic Safety Program jointly sponsored by AMVETS and the Dodge Division of Chrysler Corporation. She served as State President of AMVETS Auxiliary, and President of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Petersburg Unit 14. She was a legal secretary for Attorney Nancy Cavey. She retired on her 75th birthday and took up residence at Harbor Lights Club Mobile Home Park where she became active in club affairs serving as secretary, vice president and president. She was also an active member of the Harbor Lights Kazoo K?nockers Band, where she became known as ?Cher?. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia L. Schmidt of St. Petersburg, grandson and wife, Jon A. & Margaret Dorman and great-granddaughter, Nicole Dorman, all of Orlando; and five nieces and two nephews.
