Stroud, Luther Earl ?Pete,? 74, of St. Petersburg, died Monday October 4, 2004 at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Greenville, SC and moved to St. Petersburg in 1951 as a catcher for St. Petersburg Saints baseball team in Florida International League. He coached youth baseball for 33 years for the City of St. Petersburg Azalea and Northwest Junior and Senior Leagues, American Legion Post #14 for fifteen years, assistant coach at St. Petersburg College for nine years, St. Petersburg Winter League for eleven years and Boca Ciega High School for two years 1977-78. He was employed with Florida Power Corporation for 33 years in the Line Department. He was a part-time Scout for the Cincinnati Reds for 18 years, a former member of Gulfport Lions Club, American Legion Post #14, and the Dixie Hollins Booster Club in the 1970?s. He was a member of Palm Lake Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of almost 52 years, Marian; two daughters; Nancy L. Stroud, Tampa; Leslie and her husband, Cliff E. Otto, St. Pete Beach; and a son, Rick, of Lutz, FL; a sister, Doris Boyer, Gray Court, SC; and three grandsons: Cliff and Christopher Otto and Wesley Stroud. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 3:00PM at Anderson-McQueen Funeral & Cremation Centers-Tyrone center, 7820-38th Ave. N. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 5959 Central Avenue, Suite 202, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.
