Muskett, Virgil D. ?Shorty?, 84, of South Pasadena, FL died Friday November 19, 2004 at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. He moved to South Pasadena in 2003 from his native Gadsden, AL. He was a 1939 Emma Samson High School graduate. He was a retired US Marine who served in the Pacific during WWII, and was awarded the Purple Heart in combat action at Tarawa. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He was a life member of the DAV and belonged to the Fleet Marine Reserve Association. After his retirement in 1964 he worked with the US Postal Service in Weston, MA and Birmingham, AL. He was an avid boxing fan and enjoyed golf. Survivors include 1 son: Jim R. Muskett; 1 daughter: Marilyn J. Muskett,; 4 sisters: Willie Mae Boles, Mary Warren, Lou Jack Davies, Betty Bill Hawkins; and 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his name to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, PO Box 1947, Quantico, VA 22134. Anderson-McQueen Funeral & Cremation Centers-N.E. St. Petersburg.
