Damato, Edith, 89, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday, December 25, 2004. Born in Seymour, Iowa May 10, 1915 to Antonio Derocco and Constantine Smanotto. She married James Damato, Sept. 7, 1952 at Our Lady of the Angels, Chicago, Illinois. They were married 41 years when James passed away in 1991. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1952 from Chicago, Illinois. She and her husband owned and operated Damato?s Italian Restaurant, which is now Pepin?s on 4th Street. They also owned the Holiday House, Villa de Roma and had a catering business. After James passed away she remained active in Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Women?s Club. She was awarded the St. Jude The Apostle Medal on November 26, 2000. She loved to play golf and in later years enjoyed going to Las Vegas. She is survived by a stepsister, Lucy Ponsetto of Iowa and 8 nieces and nephews.
