Louise Carson Bishop
September 18th, 1906 - August 8th, 2005
Bishop, Louise Carson, 98, of St. Petersburg died Monday August 8, 2005 at home. She came to St. Petersburg in 1930 from her native Evansville, Indiana. She was married to Wally Bishop, a King Features cartoonist who drew the Mugs & Skeeter comic strip for 50 years. Mr. Bishop died in 1982. Mrs. Bishop was a homemaker and a supporter of many local charities. She served on the Board of Trustees for the Museum of Fine Arts and was a continuing benefactor since the inception of the museum by contributing to its art collection, buildings and programs. She was the benefactor for the museum?s Louise & Wally Bishop Gallery as well as the acquisition of several major paintings at the museum. She was a benefactor to P.A.R.C. having given a building to the charity and she created the Louise & Wally Bishop Ethical Leadership Program at the University of South Florida. Survivors include her daughter: Mary Joan Mann ? St. Petersburg; her son: Wallace B. Bishop, Jr. ? Oldsmar, FL; eight 8 grandchildren: Vicky Mann ? St. Petersburg, Sam Mann III ? Gold Canyon, AZ, Wally Bishop Mann ? Mill Valley, CA, Wendy Krop ? Monrovia, MD, Christina Thomas ? Pembroke Pines, FL, Mary Burrall ? Mount Airy, MD, Susan Beadles ? Clearwater, FL and Wally Bishop III ? Largo, FL; and sixteen 16 great grandchildren. Friends may call from 7-9pm on Thursday, August 11th at Anderson-McQueen Funeral & Cremation Centers ? N.E. St. Petersburg, 2201-Dr. M.L. King St. No., where a funeral service will be held on Friday, August 12th at 11am. Burial will follow at Royal Palm Cemetery South.
