Hartje, Henry J. 91, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011. Henry was born in 1919 in Winnebago County, IL. He served in the Army Air Corps, later the US Air Force for 21 years, including WWII and the Korean Conflict. He then had a 2nd career at the Veteran's Administration before retiring to travel the US and Europe. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Murphy, 68 years ago at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Gulfport, MS. He leaves behind 3 children, Henry James "Jim" (Nancy), Patricia (Bill) Grunow and Rebecca "Becky" (Bill) Butler; 2 grandchildren Melanie (Gregg) Sobosinski and Jonathan "Jon" (Maybre) Grunow; and 5 great grandchildren. Henry was a devoted Lutheran, and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Biloxi, MS for 21 years before moving to St. Petersburg, FL. There he and his wife belonged to Our Savior Lutheran Church. His hobbies included gardening and genealogy. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 26th, from 10:30 - 11:30, funeral service to follow at 11:30 at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Gulfport, MS, or to a charity of your choice.
