Babcock, Christine P., 90, of St. Petersburg, died Friday December 23, 2005 at Bayfront Medical Center. She was born in Farmington, Ill., and moved here in 1945 from Tampa, FL. She worked in the Finance section of the Third Air Force Headquarters in Tampa before moving to St. Petersburg. She was a buyer for Maas Bros. Department Store and later opened Christine?s Resort Fashions in the Florida Theatre Building where she operated for 15 years. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Christmas Toy Shop, Junior Women?s Club, President of the Lions Auxiliary, member of the Museum of Fine Arts, a major donor of the Mahaffey Theatre, a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Charter member of the President?s Club, Rolls Royce Owners Club, St. Anthony?s Guild, a major contributor to Bayfront Hospital for the Cancer Fund, active in the Charity Ball, and in 1990-91 served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Bayfront Center Advisory Council and Foundation, Inc., also a member of the Snell Isle Women?s Club, and a Life member of the St. Petersburg Historical Society. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In 1971, Mayor Herman W. Goldner, presented her an award for outstanding service to the City of St. Petersburg for selfless efforts as a community builder who had made a real and valuable contribution to the continuous growth of this city. She was also a member of both Hound Ears and Elk River Country Clubs in Hound Ears, NC. She traveled extensively in Europe and the Orient. She is survived by her niece Netia Viano and nephew Dominic Viano, both of Norris, Ill.
