Raymond John DeFilippo
April 14th, 1925 - March 17th, 2006
DeFilippo, Raymond John ?Ray?, 80, a seasonal resident of St. Petersburg, died Friday March 17, 2006. He was born in Chicago, IL and later moved to Bloomington, IL. He worked for 43 years for Country Life Insurance Company, a division of the Illinois Farm Bureau?s Country Companies. He developed the Group Health & Life Division, from which he retired as Director in 1989. During his employment, he served on the Board of Directors of the Health Systems Agency of Central Illinois, the International Claims Association and the Disability Income Training Conference. Following his retirement, he served as an Officer on the Board of Directors with the Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan of the State of Illinois. He was a WWII Army Air Corps veteran having served from 1943 to 1946. He served with distinction as a Bombardier/Navigator with a B-29 Crew of the Sixth Bomb Group, 313th Bomb Wing, 20th Air Force, headquartered on the Island of Tinian in the Marianas in the Pacific Ocean. His personal B-29 aircraft was named ?Snugglebunny.? Following his military service on Tinian, he served for a year at Clark Field in the Philippines. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and the Sixth Bomb Group Association. He is survived by his wife of 21 years: Rebecca of Fenton, MO; his two sons: Douglas DeFilippo of Bloomington, IL and Gary DeFilippo of Salem, OR; his daughter: Nina Moran of Bloomington, IL; his brother: Rogers DeFilippo of Melbourne, FL; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
