Hazel G. Hendrickson, age 91, of Battle Creek died Monday morning, March 23, 2009 at The Oaks At North Pointe Wood, Battle Creek. Mrs. Hendrickson was born on October 9, 1917 in Hastings, Michigan to Glenn and Mildred (Runchey) Van Patten. She had been a resident of the Battle Creek and Marshall areas the majority of her life. In 1970, she began working for Progressive Dynamics in Marshall. She retired in 1984. On September 28, 1938, she married Walter Hendrickson in Auburn, Indiana. The marriage ended in divorce. Mrs. Hendrickson was an active member of the Convis United Methodist Church and belonged to its women circle. She also helped with the Wednesday Afternoon Youth Club. She was a loving and caring person that enjoyed the company of her many friends, especially enjoying the Sunday lunches following church. When her children were young, she was involved in the local 4-H Clubs and had provided leadership for many area youths. Following her retirement she enjoyed traveling and belonged to a travel club. Mrs. Hendrickson was a very energetic and active person. For many years she maintained an almost perfect attendance record while attending exercise classes at Kellogg Community College. She is survived by daughters, Judy Cieslak of Livonia, MI and Jacki Hendrickson of Indianapolis, IN; sons, Jerry (Maribeth) Hendrickson of Kalamazoo and John (Billie) Hendrickson of Chesterfield, MO; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Barr of Goldendale, WA. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane White; granddaughter, Kimberly White; brother, Robert Van Patten; sisters, Loretta Crane, Gertrude Wyrick, Gladys Dunn, Wilma Van Patten and Vida Ayers, The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of her life will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Convis United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Convis United Methodist Church. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
