Eileen Marie Hammel DeWitt, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2015. She was born on December 31, 1942. Eileen was considered a very professional and kind individual. She had the opportunity to travel to many countries with her husband who was employed by the State Department. Eileen was able to visit the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and many countries in Europe. She also visited many states from Seattle to Florida. In her travels she was often upgraded to First Class because she was one of the best dressed customers on the airline. Eileen had a vast background of studies including, Certified Television Production Specialist, Licensed Massage Therapist and Photo Processing Technician. She was considered a voracious reader; she especially followed Nevil Shute and his works. Eileen loved video photography and cats; she had the privilege to raise and foster many felines in her lifetime. Her strength and determination will be remembered, and greatly missed. The phrase that she used often should be something that humanity should live for, "Be kind to one another". Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph V. Hammel and Eloise Dicks Hammel; in laws, Bruce and Martha DeWitt; grandparents, Reid and Sarah Dicks. Eileen is survived by her husband, Douglas B. DeWitt; daughter, Danielle DeWitt Lynch, husband Travis; grandchildren, Clara and Joseph Lynch; sisters, Linda E. Hammel and Jo Ann L. Hammel; uncle, Otis H. Long, Sr.; aunt, Jonnie Corsiglia; nephews, Garrick O'Malley, wife Michele, Connor O'Malley, wife Kimi; great nephews, River and Silas O'Malley; great niece, Juliet O'Malley; brother-in-law, Peter DeWitt, wife Patricia; sister-in-law, Cathy Rothschild, husband Rob; 15 cousins and lifelong friends, David and Janie Hodgson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11:00 A.M at Anderson McQueen Family Tribute Center, 2201 Dr. MLK Street North, St. Petersburg FL 33704. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pinellas County Humane Society or Dr.'s Without Boarders.
