Dean, Gretchen W., of St. Petersburg, died Thursday, January 25th, 2007 at Westminster Suncoast Health Center. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and came here in 1946 from Chicago, Illinois where she was in charge of display for the children?s floor at Marshall Fields? Department Store from 1943-1946. Locally, she was head of display at Maas Brothers Department Store in Tampa from 1946-1950 and then she taught Art at Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg from 1965-1979. After that, she taught painting at the Tomlinson Adult Education Center or various other community sites in St. Petersburg from 1981-2002. She loved art and painting and displayed her paintings at various local exhibitions and galleries. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the St. Petersburg Arts Center and the Museum of Fine Arts. She had a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of Art Institute in Chicago and she studied in Paris and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau for a year. She is survived by her son, Mark W. Dean of St. Petersburg; 1 brother, Spence Warren of San Antonio, Texas; and 2 nephews, Robert Warren of Costa Rica and Bryan Warren of San Diego, California.
