Abbe, John Richmond, 76, of Gulfport, died Tuesday July 3, 2007 at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, following a brief illness. Born and raised in MA, he attended Deerfield Academy, Colby College and Babson University where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the US Navy during the Korean War. Upon discharge and graduation, he had a career in sales with Bird and Son, and in business management with Spector Freight, a position which brought him to the state of ME where he lived for over 30 years. A sports enthusiast who played many sports in his youth, he liked to follow his favorite teams, especially in hockey, football and baseball. Along with Jim McAllister, he started a local youth soccer program which is now known as the Waterville Youth Soccer Association WYSA. He enjoyed golf and fly fishing his entire life. He was a member of Waterville ME Country Club and Pasadena Yacht and Country Club FLA. A favorite place was his family camp on Pierce Pond ME. An avid reader who favored mysteries and thrillers, he found enjoyment in sharing authors with his family. He also enjoyed memberships in the American Legion and the Elks club where he was a friend to all. Survivors include this wife of 49 years, Susan Richards Abbe of Gulfport; four children, Anne Smith of Waterville, ME, Richmond S. Abbe of Alexandria, VA, Dudley R. Abbe of Andover, MA, and Ruth Fenn of Greenville, ME; 8 grandchildren; a brother Charles L. Abbe of Concord, NH; a sister Suzanne Stallman of York, PA; and 10 nieces and nephews.
