Stoeke, James, 87, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 of Alzheimer?s. Born in Bristol, CT he retired from City of Chicago after 25 years with the Fire Department. He served in the US Navy on the USS Robley Evans, known as the Fighting Bob. Transferred off shortly before Japanese bomb struck the destroyer, killing his buddies. He was a member of the American Legion of Madiera Beach, the Chicago Fire Fighters Association and Holy Family Catholic Church. He also volunteered at Bon Secours Maria Manor nursing home. He is survived by his loving wife: Lydia; his stepson and wife: Stephen and Sarah Torbett and grandchildren: Alex and Olivia Torbett, all of Lake Wylie, SC. The services will take place in Chicago, Ill. With Fire Dept. officiating.
