Hayes, Thomas H., 86, of St. Petersburg passed away Monday July 9, 2007 at Palm Gardens of Largo. He was born in Chicago and grew up on a farm in Falls Church, VA. Tom served in the Air Force during WWII as an aircraft mechanic and armorer. After the war he worked as a master mechanic at Capitol Cadillac in Washington DC until he moved to St. Petersburg in 1952. He retired in 1985 and enjoyed woodworking, sailing, and volunteering at the Museum of Fine Arts, Bayfront Medical Center, and teaching auto mechanics at a local recreation center. Survivors include his wife, Effie; four children, Carol Johnson, Salt Lake City, Utah, Nancy Paridiso, Weirsdale, FL, Benjamin Hayes and Tracy Sevebeck, both of St. Petersburg; three stepchildren Lee Coryell, Sally Bell, and Katie Viebrock, all of St. Petersburg; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
