Her ancestors emigrated from Scotland, Ireland and England and her paternal Grandmother was a full Comanche Indian. She was born in Wichita, KS. She lived in Okinawa and Augsburg Germany during her husband?s military career. The military gave her lifelong friends dear to her heart. She moved to St. Petersburg in 1964 and moved to Snell Isle, on the Sunset Golf Course in 1965. After her love for family and friends her passion was golf. She was involved in many different aspects of the game. Over the years she was a member of Sunset CC, Vinoy CC and MacDill Air Force Base CC. She was the Manager of the Pro Shop at Sunset Country Club for many years; Coordinator of numerous Senior?s Golf Tournaments ; she was involved in the creation and running of the first Babe Zacharis Memorial Tournament; she was a Member and Tournament Chairmen for the West Coast Women?s Golf Association at MacDill Air Force Base Golf Club. She traveled extensively for golf tournaments and enjoyed the camaraderie of her golfing buddies. Late in her life she had a Saturday golf day with a group of friends from Canada, and a few Americans thrown in the mix. This group of friends gave her much pleasure. She made many good friends through golf. In addition to golf, she enjoyed and was a talented Bridge player. She was a devoted parishioner at St. Raphael?s Catholic Church and was involved in many different programs; she was a Facilitator in Christ Renews His Parish Program during the 1980?s, she volunteered for Children?s Sunday school and became a Eucharistic Minister. She obtained her Real Estate License and was the Manager of Waterway Crossing, a Medical Office Complex, in Clearwater for 15 years. Sadly she was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Charles Adam, Lt. Colonel, Retired. She lived the life of an Army officer?s wife during the white glove era. Charles fought in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War. He also had many Top Secret worldwide assignments. After his retirement, he was a beloved school teacher at Canterbury School ? St. Thomas Campus where she was often involved in special activities. She raised and lovingly nurtured two children, Fred and Terry, often alone due to the military demands. Survivors include her children, Fred Adam and his wife Linda, Roatan, Honduras, Terry Hellmer and her husband Chuck, Longmont, CO, and the light of her life her grandson, Shannon Wheeler and his companion Patty Brandon., Longmont, CO. She has many nieces and nephews who love her and will miss her. She opened her heart and home to many who found love, nurturing, guidance and a Mother. An excerpt from a recent poem written by one son and daughter-in-law, ?The family has grown and there's more limbs on that tree...Welcoming them all, you are as wonderful as can be.?
