March 28th, 1921 - January 13th, 2008
Hewes, Arlene G., 86, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday morning at Bayfront Medical Center. She was born in Bay City, MI, and came to St. Petersburg in 1980. She was a flight attendant for American Airlines and later worked at the William Benton Museum of Art at the University of Connecticut as Volunteer Director. She was an avid herbalist both as a gardener and lecturer giving talks at schools and elder hostels. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as President of Presbyterian Women, an active Elder, and was a member of the Academy of Senior Professionals of Eckerd College. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E., of 49 years. She is survived by her two sons; William, of NY, John of St. Petersburg, daughter, Susan, of CT, grandson, Alex of CT and David of Boston. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Dr. NE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arlene G. and Robert E. Hewes Memorial Scholarship fund at Eckerd College, 54th Ave S., St. Petersburg, FL 33711 and the Coronary Care Unit at Bayfront Medical Center, 701-6th St., St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
