Ann Groover Hines
October 16th, 1924 - February 3rd, 2008
Hines, Ann Groover, 83, of St. Petersburg, passed away at home on February 3, 2008. Ann was born on October 16, 1924 in Valdosta, Georgia and was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. After graduating from Landon High School she worked for the American National Bank and attended Jacksonville Junior College. During this time she became a student pilot and soloed. At age 22, she met and married Andrew H. Hines, Jr., of Alachua, Florida. They were married for 60 years and raised 4 children. After 4 years living "up north" Ann and Andy moved back to their beloved Florida and settled in St. Petersburg in 1951 where they raised their family. Ann was active in the Lakewood Garden Circle and in Trinity United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Church Council member and chair of the Women's Society for Christian Service. She also was a member of the Board of Directors for "Growth in Faith" and served in leadership capacities in several community Bible studies. One of Ann's Christian service highlights was going with a medical missionary team to Uganda inoculating children against measles and other diseases. Ann was also active in community service. She volunteered with the Christmas Toy Shop. Ann was a member of the Board of Trustees of All Children's Hospital where she also volunteered in the neonatal unit. She served on the Board of Trustees for St. Petersburg Junior College and especially enjoyed the student graduation ceremonies. Ann was well known for her kindness, hospitality, her loving, nurturing nature and her faithful service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She enjoyed her family and spending time with them, including boating, picnics, and family get-togethers. She was loved greatly by her family and many friends. Ann is survived by her husband of 60 years, Andrew H. Hines, Jr., her children: son A. Hampton Hines III and wife Shelly of St. Petersburg; daughter Elizabeth Renee Dale and husband Dave of St. Petersburg; son J. Bradford Hines and wife Holly of St. Petersburg; and son Daniel Howland Hines and wife Karen of Lebanon, Ohio.
