Jeanne L. Anderson, 85, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at home. She was born in Elgin, IL and moved to St. Petersburg in 1958 from Live Oak, FL. She was a graduate of Florida State University with a Master's Degree in education and was a teacher and day care director for the public school system and churches. She started the first Kindergarten in Pinellas County in 1958 in a church in Clearwater according to her son, Richard, and had worked at Blanton Elementary, Pilgrim Day Care, Community Day Care, and B'Nai Israel Day Care. She was a member of the Early Childhood Association Of FL and served on the Board of Directors for the Pinellas County License Board, the Youth Services Advisory Committee of the Juvenile Welfare Board, South Pinellas Association Of Children Under Six, and Florida Association Of Children Under Six. She was a recipient of the Merit Award from Grade Teacher Magazine in 1968. She was an avid gardener and received the FL Master Gardener certification from the University Of Florida in 1987. She was a member of the Columbus Park Wheelman's Club in Chicago and the First Unity Church of St. Petersburg. She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Anderson, Jr. of Gainesville, FL; Richard C. Anderson of St. Petersburg; two daughters, Judith Anne Hancock of Indianapolis, IN; Barbara Jeanne Salinero of Camp Zama, Japan; one brother, Robert Campbell of Waukon, IA; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert C. Anderson, Sr. September 28, 2003.
