Maxine Eleanor Smith Carter, 71, of Gulfport, FL, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 25, 2013. She was born in Walterboro, SC and moved to St. Petersburg in 1971 from Lakeland, FL. Maxine was a 41 year member of Central Christian Church and was a member of the Christian Seekers Sunday School Class where she was a class officer and benevolence and meal coordinator for over 20 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles L. "Chuck" Carter, Jr.; her daughters, Cynthia D. Lamb of Villa Rica, GA, Leslie C. Thompson of Covington, GA; her son, Charles L. Carter, III of St. Petersburg, FL; 3 sisters, Peggy Simmons, Margaret Bridwell, Judy Busby; 1 brother, Michael Smith all of Beaufort, SC; and 5 grandchildren, Gavin Lamb, Marissa Thompson, Meredith Thompson, Micah Thompson, and Mitchell Thompson. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph H. and Bessie E. Smith; and a sister, Marilyn Easler. Florida Visitation: 2:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday, September 28, 2013 at E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home Florida Funeral Service: 4:00 PM Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Central Christian Church with Pastors Rich Franz and Gary Thompson officiating South Carolina Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort, SC South Carolina Graveside Service: 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC with Pastor Gary Thompson officiating.
