Royal "Roy" K. Eden
April 24th, 1933 - July 14th, 2009
Royal K. "Roy" Eden, Jr., 76, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Roy was born in Murray, KY and moved to St. Petersburg in 1962 from Springfield, IL. He worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Bay Pines V.A. Healthcare System for 22 years and then worked at several local drug stores including Disston Drugs, Colony Drug and The Prescription Center. Roy was a 40 year Mason and Past Master of Nitram Lodge #188 F&AM where he also served as Chaplain for the past ten years. He was also a 32nd Degree and KCCH member of the Scottish Rite in Tampa, and a member of the York Rite in St. Petersburg. Roy was a Crime Watch Coordinator and Volunteer for the St. Petersburg Police Department South Pasadena Neighborhood since 1982 for which he received the following awards: Law Enforcement Award by the High Noon Optimist Club in 1990; St. Petersburg Police Department Citizens Police Academy Award May 10, 2000; St. Petersburg Police Department Neighborhood Crime Watch Coordinator of The Year Award August 7, 2001; St. Petersburg Police Department Recognition of Outstanding Achievement and Dedication Award for Neighborhood Crime Watch August 5, 2003; St. Petersburg Police Department In Recognition of Over 20 Years of Service Award Neighborhood Crime Watch August 3, 2004; and the Suncoast Crime Prevention Association Volunteer of the Year Award 2005. He also volunteered in the Crime Awareness Public Information Department and formerly was a relief officer for Pinellas County from 1962-1972. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Association. Roy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Darline W; 1 daughter Patti Becht of Jewett City, CT; 1 stepson, Mark T. Passmore; 1 step daughter, Carol A. Yates both of St. Petersburg; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, Richard J. "Rick" Eden. A memorial service will be 11 AM Saturday, July 18, 2009 at E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home 4100-16th St. No. with Nitram Masonic Lodge #188 F&AM officiating. Private interment will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery. The family requests memorials to: The Masonic Home of Florida 3201-1st St. N.E.
