Donald Jay "D.J." "Hutch" Hutchison, 71, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Friday, May 1, 2009. Don was born in Hackensack, NJ and moved to St. Petersburg in 1958 from Hillsdale, NJ. He retired from Kohler Construction Company as a Coordinator of Safety and Risk Management after 41 years. A professional musician for 50 + years, he played Clarinet with the Bay Sounds and the Danny Page Duo. He was a member of The Greater St. Petersburg Area Second Time Arounders Marching Band for 24 years and has marched in St. Petersburg, Tampa, Dunedin, Dublin, Ireland, San Antonio, TX, Portland, OR, and the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He was a graduate of the New York Military Academy and R.C.A. Institute. He served in the Air Force Reserve from 1959-1965 at MacDill AFB and was a member of American Legion Post #273 Madeira Beach and Post #305 St. Pete Beach. He was a member of the Pinellas County Chapter of the National Safety Council, American Society of Safety Engineers, FL Federation of Safety, American Traffic Safety Services Association, and the American Public Power Association. Don had been listed in Who's Who in the Southeast and South for his safety contributions. He was a member of Clearview United Methodist Church where he was active in many ministries. He was a charter member of the Friends Of The West St. Petersburg Community Library and the first secretary on their Executive Board. He was a driver for Suncoast Neighborly Senior Services Meals On Wheels program. Don was the president of Pasadena Vista Neighborhood Association. He loved his family, music, RV camping and his church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He unselfishly helped anybody with any need. His passing was preceded by his wife of 45 years, Helen C. Hutchison, his parents, Clifford J. and Louise Hutchison, and his sister Betty J. Churuti. He is survived by 2 daughters, Diana L. Fulton of Seminole, Julie A. Hagerman of Oxford, NC; grandson, Steven B. Fulton of Seminole; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Mary Clark of St. Petersburg, nieces, Deborah Deacon and Donna Trumm, nephews, Robert Churuti, Jr., Rick, Randy, Doug, David, and Mike Clark. Friends may call 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home 4100-16th St. No. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Clearview United Methodist Church 4515-38th Ave. No. with Pastor Chris McNeil officiating.
