David Lee Lurch
April 29th, 1928 - July 20th, 2007
David Lee Lurch, Sr., 79 of Kenneth City, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2007 at Freedom Inn of Bay Pines, under Hospice care. He was born and raised in Huntington, WV, where he attended Kellogg Elementary School, was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and a graduate of Vinson High School. He served his country honorably for 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. During his service he received numerous commendations including the WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. Mr. Lurch moved to the St. Petersburg area in December, 1970, from Camp Lejeune, NC, upon his retirement from the Marine Corps. He then worked as a letter carrier in Clearwater until his retirement in November, 1990. Mr. Lurch was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, and a former member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Helen Pauline Hicks Lurch; parents, Fred and Nannie Lurch; sisters, Bertie Harbard and Edna Spriggs; in-laws, Rev. John and Minnie Hicks; brothers-in-law, Rev. Guy Spriggs, James P. Hicks, Clyde T. Hicks, and James Bruce. Mr. Lurch leaves to cherish his memory a son and daughter-in-law, MSG (Ret.) David L. Lurch, Jr. and Karol, Roanoke, VA, two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Don Styres, Ashford, AL, and Valerie and Kevin Smith, St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Spc David L. Lurch, III and Mariella, Woodbridge, VA, Christopher Lurch, Roanoke, VA, Courtney Styres and Brynden Styres, Birmingham, AL, Jocelyn Smith and Phillip Smith, St. Petersburg, FL; brothers-in-law, Paul Hicks, Ashland, KY, Jolly Hicks, Catlettsburg, KY, Manuel Hicks, Indian Trail, NC; sisters-in-law, Lena Hicks, Lexington, KY, and Ruby Hicks Bruce, Greenup, KY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
