Eugene 'Gene' Thomas, Major (Ret.), 86, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Monday, July 7, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Fonde, KY and came here in 1957 from Ft. Sheridan, IL. He retired as Major from the U.S. Army serving in WWII and Korea with 21 years service. He received the Bronze Star Medal, the 1st and 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster to Air Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and two overseas bars. After his retirement from the Army, he was a Pilot for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Dept. and was a member of Q.B.'s (Quiet Birdmen). He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark A. and Cheryl of Pinellas Park, FL, John P. and Sandy of St. Petersburg, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Anna M. and Norman Miller of Brandon, FL, five brothers, J.D. Thomas, Al Thomas, both of Lexington, IL, Bert Thomas, Jr., of Hernando, FL, Don Thomas of Fowlerville, MI, Joe Thomas of Owosso, MI; two sisters, Ann Doughman of Hernando, FL, Bertha Snodgrass of Inverness, FL and six grandchildren, Boof Bonser, Dana Davis, Whitney Thomas, Dominick Miller, Mark Thomas, Jr., Cy Miller.
