Robert Eugene "Bob" Thomas 73, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Kindred Hospital St. Petersburg. He was born in New Harmony, IN and moved to St. Petersburg in 2000 from Terre Haute, IN where he was the principal of Fuqua Elementary School for 36 years and had been recognized as a Principal Of The Year. He was a graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1960, a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision 1962, and an Indiana Superintendent's Certificate in 1964. He was a member and past president of the Southside Optimist Club in Terre Haute and a member of the National Education Association, Retired Teachers Association, Indiana Principal's Association, National Association of Elementary School Principals, and Phi Delta Kappa. He was an Air Force vetearan of the Korean War and was Protestant. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce "Cathy" Thomas; one son, Terry E. Thomas of Orlando, FL; one daughter, Kaye A. Turek of St. Petersburg; and one granddaughter, Sarah R. Turek.
