Madelyn Wood Bennett, 85, died June 27, 2008 in Marietta, Georgia. Born April 5, 1923 in Pleasureville, Kentucky, she lived over 60 years in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mrs Bennett was a member of Sinawik, The Stuart Society of the St Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, and a volunteer at St. Anthony;s Hospital. She was voted best groomed, best dressed, best hatted and listed in the best dressed hall of fame in the St Petersburg Times many times during the 1960's and 1970's. She was a lifelong member and Sunday school teacher at Fifth Avenue Baptist church. She enjoyed tennis and gardening. She was the wife of James Pepper Bennett deceased, and the mother of Dr James Pepper Bennett, Jr., Dr. Marsha Jane Bennett, and Dr Barbara Anne Bennett. She is survived by her children, four grandchildren: James Daniel Bennett, Jason Clinton Bennett, Sara Kathryn Lawing, and Hannah Marie Lawing, and by her sister Mrs. Frances Wright, her brother Mr Alvin Wood & her niece, Mrs. Barbara Carole Jesse, of Kentucky. Visitation July 1, from 6 to 8 PM and services July 2, 10 AM will be at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Dr. M.L. King Street North, St. Petersburg.
