Lee R. Sheffield

Sheffield, Lee R. Sheffield, Jr. passed away December 27, 2008. He was born in St. Petersburg November 12, 1924. He attended St. Petersburg High School then graduated from Florida Military Academy in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army with the 643rd tank destroyers and was one of the first to cross the Rhine River at The Battle of the Bulge. He shared an extraordinary marriage with Helen Gay from 1945 to 1999. They were one of the founders of the Friendship Sunday School class at Christ United Methodist Church in 1947, which continues today. In 1965 Lee became a real estate broker and soon after opened Sheffield Realty, which flourished for many years. He remarried, to Helen McQueen on April 20, 2002. He lived his life as a devoted Christian and family man. Known for his boisterous laugh, his Servant's heart and generosity to others, Lee was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors, but above all else cherished spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Helen McQueen, son Skip Diane, two daughters, Susan and Peggy, step children Tom and John Laurel, and grandchildren Kyle, Michelle, Taylor, Mike, Kenny, Kevin, Tommy and David. There will be a memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church, 467 First Ave. N. in St. Petersburg on Friday, January 2nd at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers we ask that you send donations to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, or a church or charitable organization of your choice.
