Chester H. Robinson
November 8th, 1918 - February 11th, 2016
Robinson, Dr. Chester Hersey, 97, the son of the late Sherman Alexander Robinson and Alice Hersey Robinson passed away peacefully at home in St Petersburg, FL on February 11, 2016 with his beloved wife Heidi by his side along with his children. Chester was born November 8, 1918 in Yonkers, NY. He was a 1936 graduate of the Yonkers High School and he graduated from Union College with a degree in Economics and a minor in Music Education. He also held a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education from Stanford University. He is survived by his loving wife Heidi of 40 years; his children Barry Robinson from Nashua NH and Roslyn Robinson Mann from Yorktown Heights, NY; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Shirley Grisewood of Califon, NJ. Chester served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a Command Blimp Pilot and he was honorably discharged as Lieutenant Senior Grade in August of 1946. He was an assistant registrar at Stanford University, worked at Miami University in Oxford, OH and was an Assistant Dean at Hunter College. He worked many years as Dean of the School of General Studies at Herbert Lehman College - City University of New York. He is recognized in Who's Who In America in Higher Education. Chester loved summering in Southampton Long Island and fishing on his boat in addition to gardening and hiking. In retirement, Chester and his wife loved taking cruises around the world. Shortly before his death they enjoyed a two week cruise to the Caribbean. He loved his daily swims in the pool and was avid about daily exercise. He was an accomplished organist and had a passion for classical music, organ recitals, symphonies and opera. Chester will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He loved life and his positive giving nature was shared with all around him.
