Morrissey, John J., 85, of Largo Florida passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born in Hartford CT on November 30, 1930, son of the late Dennis and Anna (Tobin) Morrissey. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. He retired as a lieutenant after 25 dedicated years as a Police Officer for the Hartford Police Department. John and his wife Shirley moved to Largo FL from CT in March of 1990. He loved spending time at the beach, sitting in the sunshine. He developed a passion for gardening in his retirement years, most recently focusing on orchids. John's primary source of enjoyment and pride was his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Morrissey; daughters Deb Davis, Sharon DeRico (Ray DeRico), Lisa Fallon (Bill Fallon); sons, Gary Morrissey (Karen Morrissey) and Kevin Morrissey (Nikol Morrissey). He was blessed with 12 grandchildren- Kristen Guinard, Stephanie Morrissey, Meagan Morrissey, Katie Terlalis, Mike Terlalis, Jessica Heath, Heather DeRico, Jennifer DeRico, Todd Sanquedolce, Samantha Sanquedolce, Matia Fallon and Sienna Fallon. He also loved his 8 great grandchildren with all his heart. John was a generous man and served as a father and grandfather figure for many. He is also survived by his brother Jeff Morrissey (Rose Morrissey) and his two sisters, Anne Marie Morrissey and Judy Stebbins (Billy Stebbins). He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Larry Davis, his daughter-in-law, Diane Morrissey, his sister Mary DeLuca, and his 3 brothers, Edward Morrissey, Dennis Morrissey, and William Morrissey. A memorial Mass will be held in CT on Saturday, August 20th at 2 pm at St Margaret Mary Catholic Church in South Windsor, followed by a reception in the church hall celebrating John's life. A Memorial Service has been scheduled in FL for Saturday, October 29th at 12 pm at Anderson -McQueen Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. Visit his online guestbook at: www.andersonmcqueen.com.
