Andrew Leroy Alexander, known as "Stix Alexander , by all who knew him and saw him perform, was born Feb 12, 1958 in Kansas City, Mo. He grew up in Houston Texas and Memphis Tenn. Andrew passed away at age 58 on Aug 6, 2016 after a long and hard struggle with bladder cancer. Andrew has lived in Florida for 30 yrs. He leaves behind 3 sisters, Desiree Andrews, of Water Valley Miss.. Cynthia Rogers, of St Petersburg Fl,. Teresa Alexander of Clearwater Fl,. and 1 brother, Jim Alexander of Bradenton Fl. Andrew traveled throughout the United States as drummer with the "Ruby Tuesday Show band" for 8 years, before settling in St Petersburg at the Holiday Inn Las Vegas revue show for 13 years, with his parents Ruby"Tuesday" Coleman, and Keith Coleman. Probably most memorable were his drum solos, where he would travel all around the room, playing on tables and glasses to the delight of the patrons. He was also known for his electric blue see through drums filled with LED's and sometimes with lighted drum sticks. Most memorable was his impression of Hank Williams jr. It was hard to distinguish Andy from the real thing, which led to his being called Bocephus. In 1993 the Las Vegas Revue left the Holiday Inn to become a traveling show and Andy played many of the retirement communities through central and southern Florida. Andrew also had short stints backing up classic rock groups like Danny and the Juniors and The Diamonds. Andrew also worked at Presbyterian Towers in downtown St Petersburg for the past 5 years, where he made many friends and loved his job, and his co- workers.. Among Andrew's hobbies were his car, and his motorcycle both being dark blue which was his favorite color. He also loved to do artwork, with colored pencils. Andrew was very close to his family, and always spent much of his time with his brother Jim. They were very close and spent a lot of their spare time attending car shows and riding motorcycles and playing music. On June 2, 2016 Andy flew to Dallas Texas to back up the Walk the Line tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter with his parents Keith and Ruby Coleman, Steel Guitarist TJ Weger, and Bass guitarist Wes Schaefer. It was to be his last show. It was a great struggle to prepare for the show and he even rehearsed with IV's in his arms at times. Despite all odds he made the trip and played like the trooper he has always been. The show was an undeniable success. The show was immediately rebooked for 2017 but Stix would not be able to make it. We know that Andrew is at peace and no longer in pain. We are thankful for his life and the joy that he has brought into the world. We are celebrating his life on Sunday, Aug 21 at 3:00 till 5:00. at the beautiful Anderson McQueen funeral home 7820 38th Avenue North with a joyful music and open mike event in a way that we know that he loved. We hope that everyone comes and brings memories and songs in remembrance of him
