Stephen Paul Meyer, MD

Stephen Paul Meyer, MD (1960-2021) Dr. Meyer was born in Miami, FL and attended Grace Lutheran Church and School and the Canterbury School of Florida in St. Petersburg, Florida, graduating in 1978. He served in the US Army from 1978 to 1981 as a clerk/typist at Fort Gordon, GA before enrolling at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He graduated in 1984 (BA Chemistry), 1985 (BS Biology), and 1989 (MD). He served in the US Army from 1989 to 1994 as a General Medical Officer at Fort Bragg, NC, where he attained the rank of Captain. Dr. Meyer served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm earning accommodations and medals. Upon leaving the Army, Dr. Meyer joined Capital Health Plan in Tallahassee, Florida where he was both an Urgent Care physician and a Primary Care Provider. He relocated to North West Family Medical Center in Tampa before opening Sun Lake Family Practice in Lutz. He dedicated his life to taking care of those in need whether it was as a physician, friend or follower of Christ. Further, he never met a person that wasn't his friend and the world lost one of the truly caring people with his passing. Dr. Meyer is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debra (Markey) Meyer; two sons, Jason, of Bushnell and Joel (Jessica) Meyer of Tallahassee; two grandchildren, Ross and Riley Meyer, of Tallahassee; two sisters-in-law, Carole Meyer of Charlotte, NC and Elizabeth Witherell of Brooksville, FL; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John E. and L. Leona Meyer, his sister, Marie L. Meyer, and brother, John E. Meyer, Jr. An online Celebration of Life service was held on September 23, 2021 on Zoom. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice, the Canterbury School of Florida (St. Petersburg), the USF College of Medicine (Tampa), Grace Family Church (Lutz) or St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Tallahassee.
