Johnnie Mae Benson
December 26th, 1933 - April 29th, 2022
The Life Story of Ms. Johnnie Mae Benson “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the Heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 Sunrise Johnnie Mae Benson was compassionate, caring and loving for her family and especially her children. She was one of twelve children born on December 26, 1933 in Pavo, Georgia to the union of Buster, Sr and Pearl Mae Moore Everett. She exemplified the true beauty in living and if you knew her, you had to lover her. Johnnie Mae was born and raised in Pavo, Georgia and also received her former education there as well. Johnnie Mae fell in love and married John Henry Benson and from that union five children were born; John, Johnnie Pearl, Joyce “Dianne”, Willie, and Wilhelmina. While the family living in Florida, Johnnie Mae was employed by Hendry County School Board as a custodian and then worked at Clewiston Nursing Home and retired after twenty years of service. Johnnie Mae was a member of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and would always talk about how she enjoyed the services. She loved to dress and would always say how good God had been to her. Johnnie Mae knew this world was not her home and God’s will must be done. God called her to her heavenly home that he had prepared for her and her earthly life came to a close on April 29, 2022. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving children; John B. Benson and his wife Jamie of Fort Lauderdale, Johnnie Pearl Reid of Naples, Joyce Dianne Brown of Naples, Willie Benson of Clewiston, Wilhelmina Lundin and her husband David of Marco Island, along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Our story begins when Cecil Akin and Luther Davis purchased the former Clewiston Funeral Home, eventually adding locations in LaBelle and Fort Myers. We have served our Clewiston community long enough to remember when funeral homes also operated ambulance services. Today, we continue to help families in our community navigate grief and plan funerals, cremation services, and life celebration services....
